A Little Bit of You, A Little Bit of Me

Mack Bailey  (Spa Creek Music ASCAP)

(for “Hunter Bunny” books)

Look at me, what do you see?

Is there a chance that you might be

The friend I hoped I’d some day find?

A friend like you is what I had in mind.

Chorus:

It’s a little bit of you and a little bit of me,

We’re the best friends that friends can be.

It’s a little bit of me and a little bit of you,

Working together is what best friends do.

Sometimes things aren’t all that good

Things don’t go the way they should

I know I can’t think it through

It helps to have a friend like you.

Chorus.

Bridge:

There’s a whole world in front of me, as far as I can see,

We’ll get the most out of each day, in our own special way.

Look at me, what do you see?

Is there a chance that you might be

The friend I hoped I’d someday find?

A friend like you is what I had in mind.

Chorus,

Chorus,

It’s a little bit of you and a little bit of me,

It’s a little bit of me and a little bit of you,

It’s a little bit of you and a little bit of me,

It’s a little bit of me and a little bit of you.

A Little Boy’s Christmas

Mack Bailey  (Spa Creek Music ASCAP)

Now the story I’m gonna tell you is something you won’t believe,

But I know it’s true, ‘cuz I saw it last Christmas Eve.

Now it was late that night about ten o’clock, When all my dreams came true,

I saw dancing sugar plums, eight reindeer, and jolly Santa, too.

His nose was red and his beard was white, just as I was told.

He eyes were dancing, his heart was warm, not bothered by the cold.

There was one problem with this jolly man, he was tired and began to slouch,

And in my surprise that jolly man fell asleep right on our couch.

I wanted to look at all my gifts, but I knew I had to be true,

So instead, then I fixed him a glass of milk, brought hay for his reindeer, too.

And I know there’s a Santa Claus, the stories, I can vouch,

Cause Santa spent last Christmas Eve asleep upon our couch.

When I awoke the next morning, I ran downstairs to see,

But Santa had already gone, and note was hung on our tree.

With tears in my eyes and a smile on my face, I looked at the note, with pause,

The note contained a special phrase, “thank you” signed, “Santa Claus.”

And I know there’s a Santa Claus, the stories, I can vouch,

Cause Santa spent last Christmas Eve asleep upon our couch.

And I know there’s a Santa Claus, the stories, I can vouch,

Cause Santa spent last Christmas Eve asleep upon our couch.

Antarctic Dreams
Karen Ronne, Mack Bailey (Spa Creek Music ASCAP)

At the bottom of the world, a land of white snow calls.

Its frozen landscape draws me there, as dusky sunset falls.

The warm pounding rain, Beats on my office window,

I sit and think about my dream, and know that I must go.

Chorus:

Antarctic Dreams, Antarctic Dreams,

Of nature's beauty, so serene.

So far away; I'm there today,

In my Antarctic Dreams, in my Antarctic Dreams.

I dream of being there; in my heart, I am captured,

I'm part of this true solitude, I'm totally enraptured.

Penguins strutting on parade, whales explore their watery caves,

Among icebergs born from glaciers, gently carved by pounding waves.

Chorus

Bridge:

Crystal iceberg castles, cliffs of dazzling white,

Turquoise glows within the ice, reflected in the light.

The sun shines soft at midnight, casting warm peach glows,

Over whipped cream covered mountains, and passing icy floes.

Explorers' footprints left in snow, that time cannot erase,

I leave my routine life behind, as I dream about this place.

Chorus

In my Antarctic Dreams.

Bad Habit

Mack Bailey, L. Stonebreaker, Fred Kollar  (Spa Creek Music ASCAP)

You're my bad habit.

Barbara Dare

Mack Bailey  (Spa Creek Music ASCAP)

High up in the hills of the Appalachian Mountains

In a cabin filled with silence, you'd wonder if someone was home

There before the fire sits a lady darning socks,

And making sweaters for the man who is hers alone.

Chorus:

And she hears her lover calling as the wind blows through the trees,

And she answers just like he’s standing there,

And on a moonlit night she whispers to the stars:

Will the man she loves return to the arms of Barbara Dare?

Now, I can’t say she’s pretty, nor can I say she’s plain

Her gentle smile reflects on the man she’ll see no more.

She considers herself lucky to find the one man for her life,

Though he’s gone and so’s the memory of the child she never bore.

Chorus

And you may think she’s crazy from the way that I describe her

For the man in her mind was never in her home,

But, if you look real close there’s a peacefulness inside

Of the woman known as Barbara Dare who’s never alone.

Chorus

Chorus

Beautiful Sounds

Kenn Roberts, Mack Bailey (Spa Creek Music ASCAP)

Music has seen all my ups and downs

It’s seen all the joy and the pain.

Through troubled times it took control

And it made life worth living again

Chorus:
And the
Sounds, beautiful sounds,

Strings sing out their melody

Voices together in harmony

Sounds, beautiful sounds.

The Lord gave us music to share and grow,

To help ease our trouble hearts,

So lift up your voices in harmony

For each one was given a part.

Chorus

Like the song of the breeze through the wild raging storm

To the silence of when we’re alone.

It joins us together as man and wife

And it comforts when loved ones are gone.

Chorus

When war and hatred divide us all,

And drought threatens the land.

When weakness leads to our fall from grace,

With music, united we stand.

Chorus

Chorus

Sounds, beautiful sounds.

Call in Sick

Charting Future’s Course

Mack Bailey  (Spa Creek Music ASCAP)

Imagine if you will, a ship upon the ocean,

Searching for a new and fertile land.

The fine captain at her helm and a crew of men well seasoned,

Holding future’s fate in their hands.

Facing the unknown, searching out opportunity,

They sailed into a friendly peaceful bay.

Chorus:

Now they’re (we’re) charting future’s course and they’re sailing for tomorrow.

And they’ll (we’ll) find a better life, come what may.

Yes, they’re (we’re) charting future’s course, starting today and all tomorrow,

We’ll hold her dear, our Chesapeake Bay.

Imagine if you will a skip jack homeward bound,

From a hard day’s work of farming the bay’s floor.

And carrying supplies and food along the shoreline,

From Norfolk all the way to Baltimore,

Asking her good favor, she gives unsparingly,

Nor knowing what her destiny might be.

Chorus.

And imagine, if you will, one people joining hands,

Their strength is more than history could know.

Like neighbor helping neighbor, we’ll nurse her back to health,

And give back the opportunity, to grow.

She’s been our great provider, but the wear begins to show,

Can she hold on until we open up our eyes?

Yes, we’re charting future’s course, starting today and all tomorrow,

We’ll hold her dear, our Chesapeake Bay.

Cross at the End of the Road

Mack Bailey (Spa Creek Music ASCAP)

As I travel this long lonesome highway

My thoughts are heavier than my load

Each mile marker sign is a sin I left behind

'Til I reach my Cross at the end of the road,

'Til I reach my Cross at the end of the road.

The Lord has surely been good to me,

I wish I could say the same

I came into this world an innocent child

And I'll leave bearing Jesus' name,

And I'll leave bearing Jesus' name.

My memory is flying down this dark, lonely road,

Shadows of days gone by.

Miles of lost chances seem to fade through the years,

As I keep my eye on Heaven's Holy prize,

I keep my eye on Heaven's Holy prize.

I've logged some miles just to share my song

With nothing but this guitar in my hand,

I'll sing 'til the Lord says, "My son, come on home,

I want you here in Heaven's Holy Band,"

And I want to play in Heaven's Holy Band.

As I travel this long lonesome highway

My thoughts are much heavier than my load

Each mile marker sign is a sin I left behind

'Til I reach my Cross at the end of the road,

'Til I reach my Cross at the end of the road,

'Til I reach my Cross at the end of the road.

Dream Still in My Eyes

Mack Bailey  (Spa Creek Music ASCAP)

Slipping from the bay’s waters, the morning sun is on the rise,

Greeted by the song birds, painting the darkened sky,

The purity of the water, in the clouds the osprey flies,

Creates a crystal image of a Dream Still In My Eyes.

Chorus:

Chesapeake, Chesapeake, show us the way,

To save the precious treasures of the Chesapeake Bay.

I’ve always been a traveler, changing with the tides

Running with the water to where my heart does guide,

Spent my whole life searching for where I once belonged

Here on the Chesapeake my spirit soars in song.

Chorus

I’ll be steadfast to my course like the great blue heron flies,

And be a faithful steward, with a Dream Still In My Eyes.

Chorus.

Dreamless and Gone

Buddy Renfro, Mack Bailey  (Spa Creek Music ASCAP)

Family Melody

Mack Bailey, Bill Danoff, V. Buddy Renfro (Spa Creek Music ASCAP) (Watch Your Head Music ASCAP)

The road that led to our house was hard to find

There were rope trees lined up on either side.

The rhythm started at the pond and the melody soon joined along;

It always was the best part of the ride.

My favorite family memories come back so soft and clear

Mom and Dad both in the front and I took up the rear

Once we started singing, Lord, it never took too long

That I’d wind up in the front seat; we’d all three sing along.

Chorus:

And we’d sing choruses and choruses of “Good Old Mountain Dew,”

“Bye Bye Blackbird,” “Clementine,” and “Shine on Harvest Moon.”

Choruses and choruses of songs that never end,

If you could find a harmony then you could find a friend.

Well now I’m in the front seat with a family of my own,

We smile and sing the same old tunes. As we drive along

The years went by and the voices changed, but not the harmony,

Well Dad became a grandpa with a singer on his knee.

Chorus

Chorus

Yes, and when you found a harmony, then you found a friend.

Friendly Rap

Mack Bailey  (Spa Creek Music ASCAP)

Now when you meet somebody for the very first time

What makes you want to be around them?

Is it the color of their hair or the color of their skin,

That makes you want to be their friend?

Well, I say no ‘cuz it doesn’t matter

If they’re blue or green

It’s what’s inside their heart and their mind

That say’s what kind of friend they’ll be.

Do they talk a lot of trash; do they show you lots of cash?

Are they always acting like they’re in the know?

Remember when you’re down it’s a friend you want around,

Not somebody putting on a fancy show.

Now I know I’m just an old guy without any rhythm

Rapping out a song about friends.

Well I hope you don’t mind ‘cuz I’m out of time

And I’ve finally reached the end.

Friends

Mack Bailey, Susan Culler (Spa Creek Music ASCAP)

Friends, you gotta depend on friends,

‘Cuz they get you through the day,

By talking your sorrows away,

And listening to what you say,

By letting you do it your way,

Oh, friends, you gotta depend on friends.

Oh you can try to go it all alone

To make it on your own

But you were there to lean on when I needed you the most

And, yes, you gotta depend on friends.

Friends, you gotta depend on friends

‘Cuz they get you through the night

By teaching you what is right

And helping you put up a fight,

By telling you it’s alright

And, friends, you gotta depend on friends.

Oh, you can try to hide your feelings deep inside

To cover put that personal side.

But you were there and I did confide when I needed to the most

And, yes, you gotta depend on friends.

Oh, yes, and friends, you gotta depend on friends.

Oh, yes, and friends, you gotta depend on friends.
